Product Details

An iconic wine made from specially selected small parcels of established Barossa Shiraz from some of the Barossa’s finest grape growing families. The vineyards are situated in different sub-regions throughout the Barossa, which adds to the complexity and depth of the final blend. The wine is hand-made using equipment from the turn of the last century, then matured in seasoned American and French oak casks for two years. All this contributes to our objective to make the very highest quality traditional, soft, deeply coloured, earthy Australian red wine which will bottle age gracefully.

"Tasting this graceful Barossa Valley shiraz is like stepping into a time machine back to the region in the 1950s or early 1960s. I love the wide array of ripe yet delicate red fruit aromas and the layered fine tannins that give this enormous textural complexity. Tons of subtle spicy notes at the extremely long velvety finish. Develops so well in the glass I’d expect this to age very well. Drink or hold." - 97 Points James Suckling and Top 100 Wines of Australia 2022 JamesSuckling.com

Huon Hooke
2/6/2021Deep, soft ruby colour with a tinge of purple. The bouquet is fragrant, red-fruited, gently minty and open-knit, with a lick of char-oak, the palate following on from there with savoury flavours and drying but supple tannins surrounding a delicious core of sweet fruit. The palate is quite intense, deep and lush with a trace of mint. It's weighty, satisfying and flavoursome in its relatively unpolished but hearty way.

6/8/2024Medium-deep colour with a tinge of purple still remaining at seven years of age. Blackberry, black olive, tar, forest-floor and licorice aromas, a note of roasting meats emerging with age. Very intense and well concentrated palate flavour, deep and long with masses of supple, velvety tannins. Lovely, cuddly middle-aged Barossa shiraz, starting to drink at its peak now.

Huon Hooke
10/11/2025Deep ruby with a good tint of purple in the rim and a complex bouquet of warm forest undergrowth, dry earth and brush. The wine is full bodied and loaded with savoury flavours, masses of supple, fine, powdery tannins in good harmony. Concentrated but effortlessly so. A classic Barossa shiraz in a more savoury, earthy, mellow guise—rather than a boldly fruity, fresh style.
