Huon Hooke
17/8/2021Deep colour with a faint trace of purple lingering. The bouquet has mint and dark chocolate and is quite complex, with earthy, toasty oak nuances and a hint of coffee grounds. The wine is full-bodied and generous in the mouth; ample, concentrated, powerful, offering stacks of flavour and tannin providing very good structure to support hearty food and to age. A very solid cabernet.

6/10/2021Very deep, dark red colour with a slight tinge of purple. The bouquet is reserved and shy, with oak-derived characters and a little mint slightly eclipsing the varietal fruit at this stage. Full-bodied black fruit flavours allied with ample firm tannins, balanced and authoritative, some toasty oak chiming in at the end, leaving a trace of bitterness. Fleshy mouth-feel, lots of glycerol. A big, solid cabernet that will come into own with further ageing. (Grapes from Bendigo, King Valley, Grampians, Wrattonbully)

1/12/2025Deep and bright red-purple colour; blackberry, cassis cabernet aromas are fresh and still quite primary, with a touch of stalkiness. In the mouth it has a medium-full body, a slight leanness, fading towards a drying tannin finish. What's there is quite attractive, and it improves with airing. Drinking now and in the near-term.
