Product Details

'Simply brilliant, displaying light amber nuances, combined with an ultra-fine, persistent, soft effervescence. There's an intense, highly expressive bouquet on the first nose! The aromatic elegance and precision of Chardonnay is apparent: white fruit, sweet pollen, fine citrus fruit and very pure minerality. After a few minutes, the aromas move on to more confit, lightly grilled hints.

The bouquet is rich and sweet, almost generous, remaining precise and impeccably refined. The bite in the mouth is full and creamy, revealing an incredible concentration of juicy fruits: yellow peach, apricot, mango and others. This silky, meaty concentration, which is both dense and soft – and typical of great Pinot noir – is immediately combined with a sophisticated touch of acidity, bringing the wine alive with minerality. The overriding impression is one of a true harmony of flavours, senses and silky textures... Absolute sensuality.' - Jean-Baptiste.

9/11/2016Roederer has released the '09 before the '08 as it is an open, warm-year wine while '08 is a slow-aging long-termer. Hints of mushroom and earth on the nose, which is a trifle closed and shy. The palate is very impressive: tremendous power, terrific acidity, incredibly length. "Invisible concentration"; "weightless density" were phrases tossed about. The power and impact of the wine are undeniable. The aromas and flavours are restrained and subtle, refined and tightly coiled. As usual, I have the feeling that the wine is released a bit young and will be worth waiting at least another year for. (60/40 pinot noir/chardonnay; no malolactic; 16% oak fermented; made from old vines in 7 grand cru villages. Dosage 8 g/l.)

27/6/2023Light-ish straw with a faint tint indicating red grapes, the bouquet shows some mushroom, also of pinot noir/meunier, and there's also celery, parsnip notes, while the palate is full, rich and powerful with concentration and depth. Clearly more intensity and concentration than the Collection wines tasted with it. There is very crisp mouth-feel with a final dryness that reverberates for a long time, the dryness thanks to some phenolic grip, which more than counters any sweetness from the dosage. It's very dry, with a seriously chalky finish, and shows this vintage's no-malolactic style. A wine of tremendous finesse, line and length. It's still tight and has yet to develop any toastiness, and will blossom with some time in the cellar. A triumph from a difficult year.
