With fruit from the village of Treiso in Italy, the Rizzi Barbaresco displays an nnticing perfumed nose of red fruits, florals, rubbed mint leaf and subtle spice. Wonderfully fresh and bursting at the seems with juicy fruit, a little pang of tart red berry character, a lick of something sweet like strawberry and vanilla. It sits in the upper register of medium bodied and elegant, offering a somewhat more powerful core of fruit but it’s all upbeat and enticing. The tannins are a lurking force, not intrusive but present. Pair with your favourite Italian dishes.
5/5/2021Bright red colour of good depth. On the nose there are fragrant and lively wild berry aromas, purple flowers (maybe petunia), warm, chalky earth and a faint dusting of oak spice. The palate is more reticent, the core of fresh fruit coiled tightly in a coating of ripe tannin, dried herb and brown spice also evident, long carry on the finish. Possesses both gravitas and poise, just needs a few years to open out.
