Product Details

From the family owned Coal Pit winery in Central Otago, New Zealand comes our Best Premium Red. Meticulously crafted by winemaker Anika Willner using world class fruit from their high elevation Gibbston vineyard, this wine was made under organic conversion. The on-site winery produces only small volumes annually, ensuring no compromises are made to wine quality.

Coal Pit Pinot Noir is attention grabbing - a wine with big personality and aromatics to instantly captivate you. The palate displays elegance and sophistication with excellent fruit purity, complemented by well-integrated tannins and spicy oak for a memorable finish. A world class Pinot Noir and one we’re lucky to have on our shelves.

5/1/2021Bright, fresh pinot noir with cherry, fresh herb and subtle spicy flavours. Light, supple red with typically cool-climate characters. Nice purity and an ethereal texture.

28/11/2024Firm, smoky oak and deep-pitched and very ripe black fruit expression. A layer of thyme and dried herb with savoury whole-bunch complexity comes through. This needs a year or two to resolve but there is freshness and a sleek, if currently grainy tannin structure which eventually gives way to something more elegant and perfumed

2/12/2025Lifted perfume with floral and dried herb nuances, complex pot pourri pointing to whole bunches and smoky, tea flavours on the light-weight palate which brings immediate complexity. The structure is softening at the edges and finishes with gentle notes of malt, cocoa, cherry and cream. Approachable now with some near-term evolution yet to come
