Product Details

Devils Lair 9th Chamber Chardonnay 2015 750ml is available in a single bottle. This is amazingly youthful, the palate tight and reserved. Malt, nougat and floral aromas mingle with butterscotch and a hint of marzipan. The acidity is seamless, the complexity subtly stated. A masterpiece of finesse... Devil's Lair have been leaders in producing some of Margaret River's, if not Australia's, best and well-balanced Chardonnays. This wine is a triumph of both winemaking and viticulture - a perfect balance has been achieved between toasty complexity with an almost unctuous feel along with a level of restraint and purity. 25/5/2018Bright mid-yellow straw hue. The bouquet is tremendously complex, with buttered-toast and lots of oak influence. The wine is rich and full-bodied yet dry and savoury on the finish, the aftertaste lingering on and on. An excellent chardonnay in a full-bodied, generous but finessy style. It is reserved for its age, but there's nothing anorexic about it. A stunning chardonnay.

20/3/2019A concentrated wine with white peach, citrus curd, lemon zest and ripe grapefruit characters. The weighty and complex palate mirrors the nose. It's a delicious, flavoursome and complex wine with subtle nuttiness on the finish, a fine core of acidity and excellent length.

9/8/2018This is a tight, restrained wine which is typically slow to develop and will be long-lived. It has malt, vanilla and nougat-like aromas, penetrating flavour and great finesse. It's just a baby, and happily won't be released until 2019. The cooler years suit the style, according to winemaker Ben Miller. (all Gingin clone; 100% barrel fermented in one-year old French oak)

30/3/2021Light to medium, yellow-straw colour. The bouquet is steely, mineral and reserved, with a faint hint of lemon, but it's still a little in its shell. The wine is likewise tense and reserved on palate, with bright acidity and fine, linear profile. The acidity is elevated and draws the finish out. It lacks the amplitude of most Margaret River chardonnay and you need to go searching for its subtle complexities, but they're there. It has tremendous length. Further age will be of benefit. It profits from airing. A great chardonnay! (Footnote: it's hard to believe but this has barely moved from the way it tasted in July 2018)
